In the lead-up to this Saturday’s cracker day of racing at Caulfield, the final field and barrier draw for the $125 000 Rokk Ebony Rubiton Stakes (1100m) has been announced.
Only 11 hopefuls from the original 23 nominations have earned a start in the feature sprint, with the Peter Moody-trained Avenue drawing barrier one.
A few of the top elects did not draw so well however. David Hayes’ star filly Irish Lights suffered a slight set-back to her autumn campaign after drawing the far outside barrier 11 in the race.
Also drawing wide was the highly fancied Lucky Secret. Trained by Tony Vasil the local six-year-old will be ridden by his usual jockey, Nash Rawiller.
Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh has Here De Angels in the Rubiton on Saturday, the Christmas Stakes winning gelding due to start from barrier eight.
A notable exclusion from the Rubiton final field was Kavanagh’s other nominee, We’re Gonna Rock and the American trained Cannonball, who was also denied a start in the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes on the same day for which he had also been nominated for.
The 2010 Rubtion Stakes is set to run as race six on the day’s great nine-race card.
