Twenty-three horses have been nominated for the 2011 Rubiton Stakes, which is one of seven Group races set to take place at Caulfield this Saturday as part of the elite racing action of CF Orr Stakes Day.
The $200,000 Group 3 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) is being used by many runners as a replacement run for the abandoned $100,000 Listed W.J. Adams Stakes that was cancelled after the Caulfield washout last Saturday.
Crystal Lily was the big player in the W.J. Adams Stakes, but the Golden Slipper winner has not been nominated for the Rubiton.
Connections instead will head straight to the $750,000 Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on February 19 with Crystal Lily.
Previous Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort is now the most notable Rubiton Stakes nominee, Peter Moody’s classy Exceed And Excel four-year-old running first-up for the season.
Reward For Effort has the $1 million Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) on March 12 at Flemington’s Super Saturday as his main autumn target.
Leading online bookmaker Luxbet currently have Reward For Effort as a $26 chance in their 2011 Newmarket Handicap odds, which are lead by hot $2.40 favourite Black Caviar.
Other top entries for the 2011 Rubiton Stakes include the David Payne-trained Cardinal Virtue, consistent sprinter Catapulted who ran second behind Hay List in both the McEwen Stakes and Gilgai Stakes in the spring, Peter Moody’s improving Fastnet Rock colt Hinchinbrook, speedy filly Solar Charged and stakes winner Winter King.
The Rubiton Stakes has a field limit of 16 starters plus four emergencies and the final field of acceptors will be released tomorrow, Wednesday February 9, and published here so bookmark this page.
