February 9th, 2015

A talented field of 15 sprinters have been nominated for an appearance in Saturday’s Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield Racecourse, highlighted by some of the autumn season’s most highly-anticipated runners.

Used as a launched pad for talented sprinter Lankan Rupee to begin his subsequent standout run through the 2014 edition of the Autumn Carnival, the likely field of 15 will be aiming to begin their respective campaigns in similarly impressive style.

Undoubtedly finding career-best form to date through the 2014 Spring Carnival; Team Hawkes have nominated Chautauqua for a return in the 2015 Rubiton Stakes.

Claiming four wins and as many minor places over his ten competitive starts so far, Chautauqua returned for an impressive three length victory in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) on September 13th; repeating the dose in the Group 2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) on October 4th before running a close second to Terravista in the talent-filled Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) on November 8th.

Trainers Peter Morgan and Craig Widdison were understandably pleased with the results posted by classy filly Eloping over spring and are confident of a positive first-up result in the 2015 Rubiton Stakes.

Following up an impressive autumn campaign highlighted by two black type victories, Eloping ran a credible third amongst open competition in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) first-up in spring; progressing to back-to-back victories in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) and Listed Sapphire Stakes (1200m).

Placing a credible sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on November 1st, the daughter of Choisir has not been seen at the races since finishing a close second to Onemorzeta in the Group 3 Gucci Stakes (1100m) on Crown Oaks Day.

Flamberge secured several impressive results for Peter Moody in 2014 and has been nominated for a racing return in the 2015 Rubiton Stakes.

Taking out the Group 3 Standish Handicap (1200m) on New Year’s Day in 2014, Flamberge progressed to several competitive results in black type events and ended his campaign with success in the Group 3 Sebring Stakes (1200m) on April 5th.

Last seen running third in the Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1400m) on Sandown on Zipping Classic Day, the Exceed And Excel gelding has reportedly taken well to his time in the paddock and is primed for a successful racing return.

Three-year-old Oakleigh Girl was a standout in her native Queensland over the early stages of her career and will contest the 2015 Rubiton Stakes first-up before contesting the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) on February 28th.

Winning each of the Group 3 7News Stakes (1000m) and Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1010m) upon debuting in late 2013, Oakleigh Girl placed fourth in the Group 3 McLachlan Stakes (1200m) on December 28th before running as close second to Unencumbered in the Magic Millions Gold Coast 2.y.o Classic (1200m).

Returning for sixth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and fifth in the Group 3 Royal Randwick Stakes (1200m), trainer Danny Bougoure has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by his stable’s star in recent weeks.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Rubiton Stakes is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
