Eloping Confirmed for 2015 Rubiton Stakes Start

February 10th, 2015

Brave filly Eloping secured several commendable results over the 2014 Australian racing calendar, and has been confirmed for a racing return in Saturday’s Group 2 Rubiton Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield Racecourse.

Securing six wins and a further three minor places from her 13 competitive appearances on course so far, Eloping has not been seen at the races since finishing a close second to Onemorezeta in the Group 3 Gucci Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Crown Oaks Day.

Understandably thrilled with the results posted by the Choisir filly so far, trainer Peter Morgan told Racing Ahead her proven ability amongst open competition in the Group 2 McEwen Stakes (1000m) last spring underlined her serious chances of first-up success in the 2015 Rubiton Stakes, and revealed she will progress to the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate over the same distance and track on February 28th.

“Very good, same as usual – she always does everything the same,” Morgan said.

“Very happy with her and she’ll go to the Rubiton, taking on the older horses.

“Going to the McEwen I didn’t have her quite fit and she ran a good race.

“We summed it up and she got 58.5kgs against the fillies and 1200 so I think the 1100 will suit her better with 52.5kgs so we’ve elected to go there.

“Saturday and then the Oakleigh Plate; that’s our plan at this stage and after that I’m not sure.”

Taking out a minor over 900m on debut before making a successful step-up to black type company in comfortably winning the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m), Eloping placed a credible second to Earthquake in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) on February 8th before a luckless run for fourth in the Listed Sports 1000 (1000m).

Returning to the winner’s circle in the $250,000 Bendigo Gold Rush (1000m) on March 15th, Eloping continued to impress in finishing seventh in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) and winning the Group 3 Randwick Stakes (1200m) on April 19th; returning to the paddock after a tough run for fourth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m).

Progressing to back-to-back victories in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes (1200m) and Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) following her McEwen third, the filly out of Runaway Jesse ran an impressive sixth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m), in what was her only other start prior to the Gucci Stakes.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Rubiton Stakes is due to be completed and released on Wednesday.
